Got questions about hiring a motorhome in New Zealand? Here are the ones we get asked most.
Motorhomes are built on a truck chassis with the cab integrated into the living space, giving you full-height interiors, a proper kitchen, separate sleeping areas, and a self-contained bathroom. They’re significantly more spacious than campervans.
Every rental includes standard coverage with a $7,500 liability per incident. We offer two optional upgrade plans that reduce your liability — down to $1,000 or zero. See our insurance page for a full comparison.
Only under standard coverage — a refundable $7,500 hold on your credit card, released when the vehicle is returned in good condition. Choose an excess reduction plan and no bond is needed.
A $500 deposit secures your reservation. The balance is due 28 days before departure in peak season, or 14 days before in shoulder/low season. We accept credit cards and bank transfers.
A full licence held for at least two years. International licences not in English need a certified translation. Minimum driver age is 25.
Make sure everyone is safe and call emergency services if needed, then contact us. If you have an excess reduction plan, your costs are capped at that plan’s stated liability. We only charge actual repair costs — if the damage is less than the excess, you pay only the repair amount.
Yes, if the motorhome isn’t already booked after your dates. Contact us as early as possible and we’ll do our best. Extra days are charged at your existing daily rate.
No beaches, no unsealed ski-field access roads, and a handful of specific roads (Skippers Canyon, Ball Hut Road, etc.). Snow chains must be fitted when conditions require them. We’ll brief you at pick-up and give you a reference card.
Remove your belongings and rubbish, empty the tanks, and refill the fuel. If you’d rather skip all that, ask about our Drop & Go service — we handle cleaning, tanks, and refuelling for you.
14 days in peak season (December–February). 5 days the rest of the year.
60+ days before pick-up: full refund. 28–59 days: 75% refund. 8–27 days: 50% refund. Less than 7 days: no refund. We’re happy to discuss date changes as an alternative. Full details in our rental terms.
Dogs are welcome for a $350 cleaning fee. Note that many DOC areas and national parks restrict dogs, which may limit some stops. Let us know when you book.
Every motorhome has a rear garage storage area. If you have bags you won’t need on the road, we can store them at our base free of charge.
We operate from Christchurch. We offer airport transfer at pick-up for your convenience ($30)
